In US History I always seem to speculate about the issues on slavery and natural rights during our time of discussion. Many times I pondered on slavery and how people could be so cruel. The discussions we had made you think about the past, present, and future. I even thought about how many individuals' rights were violated and the kindness and compassion these people lacked. Are there slaves in different countries today?
There are many stories that state that slavery still occurs in today's world. For example, Miloslav Cermak, general manager at Snezka had eighty-two of seven hundred and fifty employees that were North Korean working for him. Policemen and many others felt that this was "state-imposed forced labor". Each Korean is being paid the right amount or "common salary for new employees". Is this situation justifiable or necessary?
No it is not. In addition, Dred Scott, an African-American slave who lived in the free state of Illinois and the free territory of Wisconsin's owner passed away and no more wages were given to Scott. Dred Scott appealed to the Supreme Court hoping he would be remitted his freedom. During this time slaves are not citizens of the United States. This situation of not being citizens sounds alot like illegal immigrants not being equal to "Americans" and not having natural rights.
Another issue is the Caribbean. Outlawed slavery practice continued for almost fifty years on some of the islands. Cruelty is still occurring and will always occur if nothing is being done. A Swedish woman was held captive for nine years suffering from multiple sclerosis in a small cabin in South-Central Sweden by a man . Clearly this man lacked kindness and compassion in his heart.
Finally, many people had their natural rights violated and there were illegal immigrants and slaves doing labor. America is not the only country that has or had slaves. Hopefully, brutality and inconsiderate situations come to an end. Overall, I feel that the United States as well as other countries could have handled everything differently during these rough times.

i agree with you that slavery is wrong. i think that dred scott should of been a free slave after his owner died. or if he was still a slave he should of got paid for his wages he worked. the last thing is that the slaves in the caribbean had to work 50 years after they outlawed slavery. that is not right. that is why slavery is a bad thing.
i agree when you say that slavery is wrong because it is. most of the slaves were black but some were white. they would abuse you if you was a slave. but when lincoln had set the slaves free that was a blessing for them. your blog was real and serious.
Very informative about the wrongness of slavery. I liked how you connected it with something that's current. I agree with you that the US should've come up with a different way to deal with slavery, but with so much going on with the seceding states, I probably would've just added slavery into the mix. Slavery is wrong, and everyone should know it. Great job comparing slaves with illegal immigrants, too.
First off, I'd like to say I really enjoyed reading your blog. But anyways just like Jack and "Killa" said I totally agree about slavery being completely wrong. This blog also affected me in a type of way when I started reading about the North Koreans.
Wow! That was basically an excellent blog. I liked how you expressed your thoughts into fluent writing with some nice transitional sentences. I really enjoyed how you used other examples of slavery in the modern world to support your statement that slavery is wrong. I have no feedback...your blog was very well written! I agree with everything you said: slavery is wrong, that Dred should be paid for his labor, and the fact that US government should have come up with a better way of dealing with slavery and the states that are seceding from them.
Agreed! Very well spoken. Slavery is among one of the blackest evils in society. Even today, years after its height, it's still prevalent, doing its best to make good people wanna hurl. It's good that the media and the police quash it quickly.
Hey girlie!
I swear, you and me are about to just travel the world and become missionaries! The world we live in is hazardous and evil. From living in Philly to a closed in neighborhood down the street from the school...I know how it is. Keeping a watchful eye on my little brothers as I sit and gaze at old friends running around in gangs. Teaching each other to roll weed and chasing people around with knives.
Like you said, the brutallity of the US, well Im sure we're all proud to be here. I long to travel to every country like several of my older siblings.
Here we go, our very own hippie squad!
I totally agree with you, as would most, that slavery was something that goes against human rights. It's sad that it's still something that goes on in the world that people don't know about. I really like the fact that you addressed that issue. In some countries people are still being taken as slaves. Your right that there is always a better way to handle something but peole just dont want to see that.Nice blog!
Yes, indeed slavery was very wrong and cruel. I liked the way you connected slavery, with some of today's current events. Also I liked how you didnt only talk about how blacks suffered. Although slavery might be one of the most cruelties, amongst blacks, other races suffered as well. When people think of the world slavery, "black" comes to mind, first, when it was more than just blacks. The fact that the Caribean had to work 50 years, after they outlawed slavery, is horrible, and just insane.Good job Borah, very well written and expressed!
Ypur research into modern slavery is fascinating. Sometimes the problem becomes our lack of a good definition of slavery. The United States Constitution and most other government documents abroad prohibit "involuntary servitude." This fails to include persons locked into service contracts in an effort to pay off debts of some sorts. Immigrants to the United States in need of both work visas and transportation into the country are often compelled to work for low wages in poor conditions in exchange for these things. Alternately, those in poverty are often forced into situations that are illegal and exploitative. In South Africa, Chinese companies build factories on township property where poor blacks live. They pay less than minimum wage and fail to provide standard working conditions, but since the unemployment rate in South Africa is over 24%, the people of the township refuse to report the violations and the government can do nothing to shut down the firms. When the choice is between an awful job and no job, too many people are forced to choose the awful conditions. Since they do this by choice, it is not considered slavery.
Your blog post is absolutely great! Slavery is so wrong because no one deserves to lose their natural rights for such pointless reasons. Looking at how life is today especially in the United States, I can see why so many white colonists were so greedy and self-centered. Honestly, I still see racist people today, but I'm proud to admit that I don't have an ounce of slavery in my DNA haha! However, let's be honest, we all have said racist things at one point or another but that doesn't make us bad people. A lot of times we simply do it to show love and emphasis towards people.
i agree with you. its crazy how people can be so cruel and nasty.i dont make any since.and jus because slavery is gone doesnt mean the discrimination is.
Your blog is great! Slavery is 100% not okay in whatever country in whatever year, it is not right. This blog was really interesting and i learned a couple new things. What i liked most is how you tied slavery into todays society. Illegal immigration, and people not having natural rights is somewhat like slavery. Like i know that when people think of Mexicans or Asians they think that they do a lot of jobs for a really low wage. Its unfair and not right and i love that you tied it into your blog.
This blog was really good, it seemed like you really knew a lot of information. I liked how you raised questions for the reader as well. Your comparisons of slaves not being considered citizens to illegal immigrants was interesting, I never thought about it that way. I also agree with what you said about how slavery should've been handled differently. It seemed like they could have done a much better job dealing with it because it's stilled talked about today in the sense of how horrible it was.
Great blog, I learned some stuff. :)
I enjoyed your blog a lot. I personally do believe that slavery is still going on somewhere even tho it is outlawed. although the slavery that is still going on today may be done in the dark it is clear to see that many people are still prejudice to other races and discrimination is still very alive.
I wish i was alive back in the day when all of this happened. If i was alive i would have been a part of this movement against slavery. I have a lot of great ideas that i think could really have changed many peoples views on slavery.
This blog deals a lot with slavery. I agree with most of the other people that commented when i say that slavery is wrong and does still exist today. Also, Dred Scott's case should have been ruled differently since his owner died.
It's a shame that people still had the nerve to continue on with slavery even after all the conflict that had gone on over it. I don't see how anyone could practice this way of life, and not see how it would end badly for them. Slavery obviously didnt exist in large numbers anymore for a reason, and it doesn't make sense that anyone would still try to enforce it.
I think that your comment was really good.. I really liked how you brought up the fact that slavery occured all over the world. like in Korea. I also think that you right about how diffrent slave teritories handled ending slavery diffrent.
really good job on your blog! I had no idea that slavery still existed today! I agree with everyone else that it is extremely wrong and I'm glad that it's over now. it's amazing how people can be so cruel and insensitive to someone just because of their skin color, class, or ethnicity.
Borah I love your blog. I like how you wrote about slavery. I really agree with you that slavery is wrong. I liked how you talked about what country's are still involved with slavery. Wow, it's crazy that slavery still goes on in today's world, IT'S NOT RIGHT!! You expressed this topic real good.
I agree that with u that slavery is wrong. I think dred scott should have been set free after his owner. The reason is he was not any bodies property any more so he was considered a free man
